Character Design Basic

Stylized Designs

Shapes

It is used to identify a character from one another.

Explore the possibilities of combining different interesting shapes for your design.

Add some weight to their personality

Use your character's persona as the basis of the shapes for your design.

Colour

Chiaroscuro

The purpose of chiaroscuro is to increase the scene’s dramatic tension by exaggerating the subject’s importance using color or light contrast.

The use of light and dark to create the illusion of three-dimensional volume on a flat surface.

A certain type of painting method in which significant details such as faces and hands are illuminated by highlights which are contrasted with a predominantly dark setting.

This method is an excellent lighting choice to differentiate positive vs negative spaces

Task 1: Vormator Challenge

The following rules have to be followed when creating your artwork:

"You allowed to rotate, flip and duplicate the Elements You have to use all the Elements Scaling is allowed, but proportionally, so skewing or free transform you add, subtract, intersect and group elements as you see fit. The use of color is unrestricted; you can create your own color schemes (e.g. use adobe Color)You allowed to use gradients. The Elements may be filled, the use of strokes is allowed. You are  allowed to use filters or effects (e.g. drop shadows)"

Mr Hafiz demonstrated in class how to use tools to draw these shapes, like knife tools, etc.

So I followed Mr Hafiz's instructions and used the pen tool to draw the shape of the pear first.

In the class, Mr Hafiz lets us do one more exercise about light and shadow.

Task 2: Pokemon Card Composition

"Place your Vormator character into a Pokemon card composition, incorporating foreground, midground, and background elements. You may also create a new shape not bound by the vormator rules or shapes."

First, I apply color and shadow to my Vormator character to enhance its visual appeal.

Research

Considering that my pokemon is of water type, I used a background similar to the seaside.

and design a composition that effectively uses foreground, midground, and background to tell a soft narrative about my character.

First, I created a background about the sea and a little mountain.

and create wood and plants be my foreground, midground.

after finish my background, I added some shadows under these mountains.
