Week 1 - Game Design Development
Week 2
This week, Ronald introduced us to some basic operations of 3D modeling software, Blender and Gobot. This is an area I have never touched before. I believe that we will gradually become more familiar with these two software through continuous homework after the course.
I created my character Robot. It was a difficult process. It was really not easy for me to use Blender to make my game 3D character for the first time, so I searched for some tutorials on the Internet to make my character. I first found the tutorial on making a tank model, and then learned the wheels below and added the body of the robot.
I then added the big exhaust pipes to the back of my robot because my robot has a turbo system so I thought it would be fun to add that idea.
I found it a bit difficult to use Blender to create 3D models for the first time, but after following online tutorials, I gradually became familiar with how to use these tools, which allowed me to use my imagination more smoothly in design. But I still don’t like 3D modeling.
Week 3
Each team is to produce two Game Design Document (GDD) for two games that
you collectively ideated and selected. Every team will present their GDD in W4
(20 mins per team). This may not end up being your Final Project, but will still
contribute to your Continuous Assessment grade. Hence document the process
in your blog. Include your personal perspective in the blog and submit the link to
the post by 11:59PM midnight before W4 class.
Our group chose a game I had conceived before, Turbo Bot: Rise of the Circuits, and the other game was Abbie and Flurry, a game conceived by one of our group members.
Week 4
This is the game documentation our team created. When we presented it to Ronald this week, he said we could go a little deeper and detail deeper. The other teams didn't get very good feedback because they provided very few images for reference. It was hard for people without understanding to imagine the characters they were trying to portray, or the environmental designs, and it was difficult to get a visual reference.
So our homework this week is to review the contents of these game documents and make our group's game documents better. I think this is a good practice. After looking at the works of other groups today, we should have a general idea of what the correct approach and requirements are.
FEEDBACK
Week 2Specific Feedback: It is best to give the game a story background so that players can be more immersed and the overall game goal will be clearer.
Week 4
Specific Feedback: Make your game documentation more detailed and provide more visual references.
