REFLECTION
After this module, I enjoyed a full and rich learning process that started with the writing of the dissertation draft, Task 2 was to design the e-book, and the Article Publication was the last part of the entire learning process. All tasks were interrelated and gradually assisted me in comprehending the role of research, design, and communication in interdependent relationship within a design research environment. This module made me look beyond research and visual design as two distinct processes and start to appreciate how research results can be turned into a simple and appealing visual object.
The task I liked the most was Task 2: Visual Design Publication. Despite the fact that this task can have been challenging to most students, I really enjoyed the design process. It has enabled me to put into practice layout principles, hierarchy and advanced typesetting skills that I have acquired in earlier modules. The creation of the e-book made me understand that the visual design of a good e-book is not only about the aesthetics, but also the clarity, readability, and the information added to the content of the research. This assignment gave me more confidence in integrating academic materials and professional visual presentations.
Moreover, the experience and the insights I gained in the last module, Design Research Methodology, were highly helpful. Dr. The constant advice by Jinchi during each of these modules contributed greatly to my learning process. I am very appreciative that she is patient to correct us when we do something wrong and also to make us understand why she is doing so. This also made me more aware of the research process as opposed to androdotically obeying instructions.
This module I really did not like in the beginning as I lacked the confidence in research and academic writing. Nonetheless, having done it, my views were altered immensely. I acquired the basic research skills, the ability to find important things in scholarly papers in the shortest time possible, and how to assess the sources critically. Above all, this module enhanced my abilities in critical thinking significantly, which, to my mind, will be of great use in my academic and design endeavors in the future.
