Final Outcome

Fig 1.1 Water Lily(21/3/2025)

Rationale

I chose to paint water lilies because I like flowers. There are many types of flowers, each with its own unique beauty. So I also chose to create water lilies in my work. In order to create a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere, I also chose watercolor as the medium. I hope that this work expresses a harmonious and calm atmosphere that can stop people's irritability. In the design principle, the lotus on the left side of the picture is the main visual focus, while the lotus leaves on the right side provide a balance so that the picture is not too heavy on one side. The pink water lilies and the blue water surface form a strong color contrast to make the water lilies more prominent. The lotus leaves are similar in shape and color, forming a regular arrangement, making the picture more unified. The lotus on the left side of the picture is the brightest and most delicate focus, which naturally attracts the viewer's attention. The colors are combined in a cold and warm contrast, but the overall harmony is still present, showing a tranquil water scene.

REFLECTION

  • What have I learnt in this module?
I learned a lot of design principles in this module, and many designs that can be seen in daily life contain these principles. Of course, this module gave me the opportunity to explore the works of many artists and do a lot of research that I would not normally do, allowing me to delve deeper into the ideas and worlds of these artists.
  • What did I enjoy the most?
My most enjoyable moment is probably when I am painting. After I set up the camera, I start to paint my work in watercolor. I feel that I really enjoy immersing myself in the atmosphere of painting at that moment. It is also my most carefree moment. I can also paint freely.
  • What did I not enjoy the most?
The moment I least enjoyed was probably when I was taking theoretical classes. I prefer to do things with my hands, which I think is more fun and allows my body to remember the steps. Instead of facing a bunch of text, which is not what I want.
  • What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I have always been an individual who yearns for freedom and does not like to be constrained. Compared with manual creation and electronic creation, I prefer electronic creation, because I think the advantage of electronic creation is that it can be modified repeatedly, while manual creation has a lower error tolerance rate. If something goes wrong, the entire work needs to be remade.
  • What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
The design principles I learned in this module changed my previous standard for observing a work of art and made me observe it from a new perspective. Before learning this module, I always observed other people's works based on my own standards and never conducted a deeper analysis, including the author's thinking, etc. Every work of art has its own story. When we understand its story, will we have different ideas than when we first saw it? Many times, I can't change my bad habit of procrastination, which is something I still need to improve.
  • What are my aspirations?
I want to be a more valuable designer, or even an influential representative. I want to enjoy the creative process, understand people's needs, design works that satisfy me, and pursue the top in this field. At first, I felt anxious because of various homework. It was Mr. Charles who told us to enjoy the process and not put too much pressure on ourselves. After that, my mentality changed. Thank you Mr. Charles for all kinds of feedback, including valuable advice on life.
